In honour of American actor, Chadwick Boseman, who died last week of colon cancer, we encourage you to implement these helpful tips to fight and prevent this disease, if they are not already a part of your dietary regimen. Colon cancer is reported to be the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.A. Taking precaution now against colon cancer is important and you can start by eating more whole foods containing fiber. These foods help to prevent colon polyps, which are abnormal growths in the colon that sometimes lead to colon cancer [The following is general information and is not medical advice. Vegetables (dark green leafy and cruciferous): Kale, spinach, collard greens, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, arugula, brussels sprouts, cauliflower

Dried fruit

Seeds and nuts

Legumes (at least 3 times per week)

Whole grains: brown rice, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, oats, quinoa, barley, amaranth, flaxseed, buckwheat, spelt,

Plant-based proteins, organic fish or poultry

Notable points: Green vegetables (leafy and otherwise) are high in anti-carcinogen compounds that inhibit the development of cancer and thereby help to decrease this risk. Whole grains contain psyllium which is a form of fiber and most commonly known as a laxative. It makes bowel movements easier and can promote regularity without increasing flatulence. It also has the ability to soften your stool provided you drink enough water.

Processed meats i.e. bacon, cold cuts, hot dogs, sausages, etc.

Refined sugar

Processed foods in general
